Choosing A Domain Name

Choosing a domain name will help in building your online presence. A domain name is nothing more than your address online. In the age of instant information and connection to the internet people go straight to their phones and computers to get the answers they are looking for.

When was the last time that you looked up anything in the yellow pages or phone book? That is now a primitive stone age thing of the past idea. It was not too many years back when your business had to be listed in the yellow pages if you wanted to compete in your industry. The advertising attitude was the bigger the ad the better. If you were in a service type of niche it was essential to get a ¼, ½ or full page ad in order to get a steady flow of leads and customers.

In today's world using the phone book to look up services compared to the internet is like riding your horse to the local Wal-Mart instead of driving your car. Choosing a domain for yourself, business, or niche is important if you want to be found online. Do an experiment and Google your name or business and see what comes up in the search engines? Do you have online presence? Are you ranking for what you do professionally? If you're not even coming up on Google choosing a domain is where you want to start.

Choosing a domain name and building a simple Word Press blog will dramatically increase your online presence. If you're branding yourself then try to purchase your name or business.com, if it is available. It amazes me that right here in my own town how many businesses don't even own their domain name.

Now while searching the availability of the name that you're wanting what do you do if you name is already taken? If your name is taken you can add to your name or add a prefix. Here are a few examples of effectively modifying a domain:

Your Name Online.com Your Name Live.com Ask Your Name.com Who Is Your Name.com Your Business Name & City.com

It is no longer essential to have an exact match key word when choosing a domain name. You can still buy and build a site for an exact match keyword if you want, but it does not weigh that much in the search engines anymore. Google has gotten wise to this and puts more weight on relevance other than the name of a domain. If you still want an exact keyword domain that is getting a ton of searches then just be sure to build a site that is the most relevant for that term.

Choosing a domain name is where you want to start building, branding and managing your online presence. Add a nice blog with plenty of relevance and you will climb to the top of the search engines quick. Be sure to sign up for several social media sites and drop the links to your blog articles back to your site. This simple process will have you dominating your niche and getting the search results that you're looking for. Google yourself and see the results! There is no better time than the present to choose your domain name.
